Where the name came from, and what it has to do with building instruments.
The name
Noem comes from noema, a term from phenomenology.

- Philosophy. The object of a thought. Not the act of thinking, but the thing the thought is about.
You can look at a tree, remember a tree or imagine a tree. The act is different each time. The object stays the tree.
It is a useful thing to hold on to when you are building instruments. What matters is the thing someone is trying to make, not the machinery they have to operate to get there. Software forgets this constantly. It hands you parameters and leaves you to guess your way toward the sound you already had in mind.
So we start from the object and work backwards to the controls.
Who we are
We are producers. The plugins come out of the same work as the music.
That work has covered a few different parts of making music.
We build things we enjoy building, and we use them ourselves.
What we make
Audio plugins for macOS and Windows, as VST3, AU and AU MIDI FX. Kine is the first one out.
We also keep a running list of free plugins other people have made, because most of what is worth installing was not made by us.
